Our state-of-the-art digital x-ray technology is safer for you and allows us to diagnose problems early – before they threaten your oral health.

Digital X-Rays

Every healthy smile begins with conscientious oral hygiene and preventive cleanings and exams. You simply can’t enjoy the best possible oral health unless you take proactive steps to prevent problems from occurring in the first place.

An essential part of providing you with effective preventive treatments at Wellington Dental is being able to diagnose problems early when they are small and easy to treat. For this reason, we are excited to introduce you to our state-of-the-art digital x-ray technology.

Digital X-Rays Improve Your Experience

Updated digital x-rays allow us to dramatically reduce your radiation exposure while increasing our ability to find and treat problems developing deep within your teeth.

Taking traditional x-rays involves clenching a device uncomfortably between your upper and lower jaws. This is the x-ray film that absorbs radiation and produces an image of your teeth.

However, with digital x-rays, instead of bulky film, we use a comfortable flat sensor with rounded edges that is easy to position in your mouth. Unlike film x-rays that require chemicals and time to develop, digital sensors send the image to your chairside monitor in moments so we can review it together.

With digital x-rays, we can focus precisely on the area of the tooth we are treating. Digital sensors produce highly detailed images of the tooth, and the information is then sent electronically to a computer where it is digitally stored.

Advantages of Digital Imaging

If you want a healthy smile, you need to be an active participant in your oral health care.

Digital x-rays help us include you in the diagnostic process because we can share the images with you and point out exactly what the problem is. When you can see for yourself what is happening inside the tooth, you can better understand why treatment is necessary.

Aside from increased comfort and improved diagnostics and patient education, digital x-rays have other advantages:

  • The radiation to which you are exposed with digital x-rays is significantly less than with film x-rays. Some estimates indicate that exposure is reduced by about 95%.
  • Digital x-rays are stored electronically, making them easy to retrieve when needed for review or to monitor conditions.
  • Since images are stored digitally, they can easily be shared with specialists or your insurance company as needed.
  • We don’t need to dispose of hazardous chemicals used with film x-rays, so digital x-rays are better for the environment!
