Technology

At Wellington Dental, we offer a caring, personalized approach to your dental care. We know that when you feel anxious, there's nothing like a friendly smile or a kind word to put you at ease.

But we also appreciate the role that technology plays in making dental treatments faster, more comfortable, and more productive. If you haven’t visited a modern dental office in a while, you will be pleasantly surprised by all the ways technology can improve your experience!

Please take a moment to browse through some of the state-of-the-art technology we currently offer. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call us for more information.

Digital X-Rays

Dental x-rays have always been an important diagnostic tool. But now, with the introduction of digital imaging, diagnosing dental conditions has never been safer, easier, or more accurate.

State-of-the-art digital x-rays produce highly detailed images that allow us to see minute detail we might not see with traditional x-ray film. Using this technology, we can display and enhance an image just as you would a photo on your phone. We can zoom in, zoom out, and even rotate the image so you get a clear view of the problem. Because the images are high resolution, we can identify and treat conditions in their earliest stages, long before they cause any discomfort.

Patients especially appreciate digital x-rays because they produce far less radiation than film x-rays; some estimates say as much as 95 percent less. Digital images require no film to process, so there are no hazardous chemicals to dispose of, making them safer for the environment. And since your x-rays are stored electronically on our secure system, we can quickly send them to your insurance company or specialists as needed.

Electric Handpieces

One of the many ways we make your appointments more comfortable and efficient is our use of electric handpieces. Patients with dental anxiety say that one of the things they dislike about dental visits is the sound of the equipment. At Wellington Dental, we use electric handpieces, which are much quieter and produce less vibration.

Electric handpieces also have lights for greater accuracy, resulting in a better overall patient experience. Also, electric handpieces provide a level of precision that isn't possible with the air-driven tools used in the past. This updated technology helps our doctors and hygienists remove decay and plaque quickly and efficiently, cutting down on the time it takes to complete your dental procedure or cleaning appointment.

Intraoral Cameras

Educating you about your oral health is one of the most important jobs we have. For this reason, we choose technology that includes you in the process and gives you a better understanding of the state of your oral health.

An intraoral camera is a small device that we use to produce real-time pictures of your teeth. The camera is about the size of a pen, and as our doctors direct it over your teeth, you will see the image immediately displayed on a chairside monitor. Intraoral cameras allow you to participate in your exam because the detailed images they provide show you exactly what the problem is and why you need treatment.

DIAGNOdent Cavity Detector

Our patients love our DIAGNOdent Cavity Detector because it allows us to find cavities in the earliest stages, which usually results in less involved treatment. Decay frequently begins in the tiny nooks and crannies of your teeth (especially molars), making it difficult to detect early on with traditional methods.

DIAGNOdent is a small handheld dental laser that our doctors use to scan the surface of your teeth to easily find even the smallest cavities. When the equipment finds a cavity, it lights up the area so we can easily find the area we need to treat. The sooner we can identify decay, the sooner we can plan your treatment. In many cases, early detection results in minimal treatment to correct and better long-term results.
